Velo Girardeau
The Bicycle Club of Cape Girardeau
Who we are
We are the bicycle club of Cape Girardeau. Each Sunday afternoon, March
through November, Velo Girardeau has a ride into the surrounding countryside.
Rides usually originate in front of Dempster Hall. Sunday rides vary from
20 miles to 100+ miles, with most rides in the 20 to 40 mile range. Rides
have at least one rest/snack stop. The riding pace varies from slow to
moderate.

A Brief History of Velo Girardeau
The Velo Girardeau Bicycle Club was founded in 1979 and has grown from
20 members to today's membership of 150+. We are a diverse group of riders
whose cycling interest range from short recreational rides to centuries
and multiday tours.
Our ride season runs from March through November with weekly Sunday
rides. From May through September we meet for our popular Tuesday and Thursday
evening rides starting from north of the downtown Cape area, across from
Huston's. Every ride has a designated ride leader who will assist newcomers
with maps and mechanical support.
Once each month we feature a food ride. September is our century month
with 25-50-62.5 and 100 mile rides, ending with the annual picmic.
Velo Girardeau members also participate in events like Tour de Cape,
Tour de Corn, Misaligned Minds, RAIN, CAMP, RAGBRAI, Hilly Hundred, Moon
Light Ramble, and others.
